One eSIM for Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam: Worth It?

If you’ve ever mapped out a Southeast Asia trip, you’ve probably drawn this exact line without realizing it has a name: down from Luang Prabang, through Vientiane, across into Siem Reap for Angkor Wat, then on to Phnom Penh or straight through to Ho Chi Minh City. Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam sit in a single connected strip of the map, share land borders you can cross overland by bus or minivan, and between them cover almost every reason people fly to this part of the world — mountains and river towns in Laos, temples in Cambodia, coastline and cities in Vietnam. Travel guides have called this route “Indochina” for a century for exactly that reason: it reads as one trip, not three.

Until now, your phone didn’t agree. Crossing from Laos into Cambodia meant either paying for roaming on your Laos eSIM (if it even worked there) or installing a second local eSIM the moment you landed — then a third for Vietnam. It’s data-only (no phone number — same as our single-country Laos plans), and hotspot/tethering is supported on all three networks, so you can share the connection with a laptop or a travel companion.

Is it actually worth it over separate eSIMs?

Depends on your route. If your trip genuinely crosses two or more of these three countries, one eSIM beats juggling separate installs — and at $17.90 for 15 days, it’s priced close to what a single Vietnam or Cambodia local eSIM alone would cost you, so you’re not paying much of a premium for the other two countries coming along for free.

Planning the route

A common order is Laos → Cambodia → Vietnam (or the reverse), landing in Luang Prabang or Vientiane, crossing south by land or a short flight into Siem Reap, then continuing on to Ho Chi Minh City or up to Hanoi.
